Data Security and Availability
LineMetrics was designed from the ground up for maximum data security, data availability and reliability.

End-to-end encryption
LoRaWAN is considered very secure because all data is encrypted on two levels. The user data is encrypted with the application session key at the application level. This encryption extends from the application on the sensor to the user application on the server, where the data is processed. All transmitted data is encrypted again with the Network Session Key. This concerns the transmission from the sensor to the network server and ensures the authenticity of the sensor.
Regardless of this, LineMetrics has once again significantly increased security: Our LoRa gateways are equipped with additional security certificates, which are constantly renewed, so that unauthorized access from the gateway to the server is not possible.
High-security data center in Austria
LineMetrics operates its own, multi-redundant server infrastructure within a high-security data center in Austria operated by T-Systems Austria. This is certified according to the following standards: DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 | DIN EN ISO 27001:2013 | DIN ISO / IEC 20000-1:2011 | DIN EN ISO 14001:2004 | BS OHSAS 18001:2007 | ISAE3402 Report | DIN EN ISO 22301:2012 | DIN EN ISO 50001:2011
Sophisticated security systems (security guards, comprehensive video surveillance, alarm systems,…) guarantee the highest level of security and thus protect your data from physical access by unauthorized persons. No data is stored outside the EU. Data backups are performed on a regular basis.
Multi-redundant software services
In addition to the hardware infrastructure, our software systems are also designed with multiple redundancies. All critical services as well as the databases for the measured values are available in triple, so that in the event of a failure, two backup systems are automatically available.
All systems are monitored by internal 24/7 monitoring in order to detect any problems at an early stage. This enables our service team to take action even before actual disruptions can occur.
Smart Software Architecture
Master data of our customers, account data as well as the actual measurement data are processed and stored separately from each other.
In the extremely unlikely event of unauthorized access to measurement data, data security is still ensured. This data alone is completely worthless or useless, because without contextual information from other databases, it is not possible to assign the data to customers, measuring points or sensors – and thus to interpret the data.
Independent of internal IT infrastructure
Conventional IoT solutions usually require access to the company’s own (W)LAN. Many IT managers are critical of this, as it can pose a security risk. As a result, time-consuming security checks are necessary and the roll-out can be considerably delayed. In some cases, the entire project is even blocked for security reasons.
That’s why the LineMetrics solution is designed for completely self-sufficient use. Both the data transmission from the sensor to the data logger/gateway, as well as further to the cloud platform, is completely independent of existing networks. The measured values are transmitted to the cloud via GSM/LTE.
Data availability since 01/2020
Secure Web Interface
Access via the browser is encrypted at 256 bits – comparable to e-banking level.
Ongoing security updates
The LineMetrics Security Team continuously analyzes the latest security trends and potential threat scenarios to make the solution even more secure.
Firmware updates and upgrades on the sensors, gateways and data loggers are regularly carried out “over-the-air” and ensure maximum security.
Offline Alerting
If the sensor’s batteries are empty, the network is down, or someone has accidentally unplugged the gateway, then an immediate alert via email is possible.
It is flexibly configurable and is triggered when no measured values are transmitted for a certain period of time. This helps to minimize any data gaps.
